Rotational Molding is a stress-free plastics manufacturing process that produces parts that are virtually stress free since there is little to no force or pressure involved in the manufacture of these products and or components. Most rotomolded products are manufactured from Polyethylene. Polyethylene, or PE for short, offers an extremely long life span and is one of the most durable materials on the planet. PE products offer a number of advantages over other materials including better durability, lighter weight than many other materials and impervious to weather conditions which make it suitable for a wide variety of outdoor applications.
Because of the intrinsic properties of polymer based materials, Rotomolded products perform far superior over other matierials that may rust, corrode or deteriorate such as steel or fiberglass. Because of their durable characteristics and ability to stand up to ultra violet rays, many components of Playgrounds and various playground components are often rotomolded because of this. Polyethylene is one of the most frequently used materials for the rotational molding process because of its durable nature to stand up to environmental factors. Polyethylene can also be used for chemical production, processing or handling because of its inert abilities and resistance to deterioration from exposure to a wide variety of chemicals.
Sustainability is a common theme amongst industry leaders and others who have real concerns for the Earth and environment. A growing number of components necessary for industry and manufacturing may only see (1) use in its specified operation before the item is damaged, destroyed or virtually useless. While recycling continues to grow and innovate the reusability of materials and products, converting products to rotationally molded polyethylene has been extremely successful and profitable for a number of conversions for industry leaders.
The opportunities for rotationally moulded items are unlimited. A growing variety of products constructed from much less durable materials are being redesigned to be converted to polyethylene with switching to rotational molding production. While conversions of products to the rotomolding process is common, there is still a large number of products that would benefit from being converted to the rotational molding process. Some previously converted products include:
Polyethylene and rotational molding can also be used to increase the service and functional life of components made from other materials, such as steel. Rotomolding processes such as lining stainless steel chemical tanks with polyethylene to expand the life-span of the tank is also an expanding trend. Polyethylene can be coated on the internal surfaces of the tank via roto-molding, providing additional durability and chemical resistance to an otherwise otherwise restricted product. A polyethylene liner or covering could likewise be added to a metal design to increase durability.
Other rotomolded products that have extended functional lifespans due to their conversions to rotomolding and polyethylene include:
Rotational Molding is a process that extends to many industries and applies to parts both large and small. The ability to manufacture parts in either large or small quantities makes this plastics manufacturing process suitable for companies of all sizes.
Rotationally Molded products include Laundry carts, chemical tanks, playground equipment, shipping containers, pallets, bins, trash cans, liners, secondary containment tubs, buoys, septic tanks, piping, barriers, agricultural tanks, bulk storage containers, machine housings, furniture, outdoor products, kayaks, canoes, planters, defense products and many more!
